Rand Road Lighting Improvements

A key component of the Mount Prospect Strategic Plan established by the Village Board of Trustees is toimprove the Village’s corridor street light system. Each year, the Village evaluates arterial streets todetermine a location that will benefit from having streetlights. As part of this project, streetlights will beinstalled on Rand Road between Camp McDonald Road and Elmhurst Road (IL 83). The streetlights willbe silver aluminum poles with LED luminaires, similar to the ones at the intersection of Rand Road &Euclid Avenue. Any old ComEd lights on wood poles that currently exist along the project route will beremoved at the end of the project.
At this time, it has not been determined exactly where thestreetlights will be located. The construction plans will be added to this web page uponcompletion.
This section of Rand Road was chosen for this year’s project based on a few factors. Rand Road carries18,000 to 24,000 vehicles per day in Mount Prospect. New street lights have been installed along RandRoad from Central Road to Business Center Drive as part of the Rand-Central-Mount ProspectIntersection Project. In addition, new street lights are planned as part of the upcoming Rand-83-Kensington Intersection Project. They will span from Business Center Drive to Elmhurst Road (IL 83).Streetlights along the section from Elmhurst Road (IL 83) to Camp McDonald Road will complete theentire Rand Road corridor in Mount Prospect. This makes it the preferred choice for this year’s corridorstreet light project.
Rand Road is under the jurisdiction of the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). A permit fromthem will be required to meet their design requirements before construction.
