Mission Statement
To improve the health and wellbeing of the people and community we serve through the provision of nursing and social services.
What We Do
The Department offers a wide variety of services that address both Public Health and Social Service needs. Services can be accessed at Village Hall and the Community Connections Center. Bilingual English/ Spanish speaking staff are available at both locations.
Public Health Nursing services include:
- Office visits for consultations and education
- Screening clinics
- Community health education and prevention programs
- Community outreach nursing
- Medical lending closet assistance
Social Services are provided by department social workers. Services fall under the following programs:
- Emergency Assistance Program
- Benefits Assistance
- General Social Services
- Police Social Services
- Senior Services
- Social Service Group programs
Senior recreation activities and programs are provided by the department throughout the week in the Farley Community Room. Services fall under the following:
- Health and Wellness Activities
- Social and Recreational Programs
- Informational and Educational Programs

Exciting Changes Ahead...
This year the Human Services Department completed a Needs Assessment and Transit Study to ensure we are meeting the needs of the community and to propose potential improvements. Home Modification Resource Fair (11/08/23)
Home for Life Advantage, Inc., certified aging in place specialist (CAPS), presents the top 10 home modifications you can put in place today to maintain your independence and age in place freely, comfortably, and safely for life. Aging in Community Resident Workshop (12/1/21)
The Aging in Community resident workshop invited older adults to share their experience of aging in Mount Prospect and to provide ideas to make the Village a more age-friendly community. The workshop was part of the “Aging in a Changing Region” (AiaCR) program, run by the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus, the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) and Planning/Aging, and funded by a grant from the RRF Foundation for Aging.
Aging in Community Stakeholder Workshop (9/29/21)
The Aging in Community stakeholder workshop invited community partners, service providers and government entities to share their strengths and weaknesses in serving older adults and to identify strategies that will support aging in community. The workshop was part of the “Aging in a Changing Region” (AiaCR) program, run by the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus, the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) and Planning/Aging, and funded by a grant from the RRF Foundation for Aging.
The Village of Mount Prospect launched the Aging in Community Initiative in 2019. The mission of the initiative is to strengthen community infrastructure and systems that enhance the lives of older adults. The Village convened a Task Force composed of community partners and residents with expertise and interest in age-friendly policy and programming to develop a three-year Action Plan. The Action Plan lays out concrete goals and objectives that will enhance age-friendly features of the community and advance Mount Prospect as an accessible, inclusive community where older adults thrive and have the tools to navigate the aging process.

The Human Services Department has been working on this important initiative in collaboration with other community partners. The Age-Friendly Task Force led the assessment and planning phases of the Action Plan from 2021 through 2022.
