Fire Station 11 Opening
Mount Prospect became the primary emergency service provider of the Elk Grove Rural Fire Protection District in 2024. The Village of Mount Prospect worked with the district since 2016 to develop a permanent solution to provide residents and business owners in unincorporated Elk Grove Township fire and EMS protection. With this service agreement comes a newly acquired fire station at 1415 Algonquin Road, serving the southernmost areas of our Village as well as the unincorporated areas along I-90, formerly known as the Elk Grove Rural Fire Protection District.
Station 11 is staffed with a lieutenant and four firefighters, all five being licensed paramedics like our other three stations. What is unique to Station 11 is the 2000-gallon tanker truck. Tender 11 is a mobile water source built to quickly provide water for fire suppression to the unincorporated areas currently without fire hydrants.
The new station improves overall response times to the entire Village and cut our requests for help from other fire departments by over 50%. With increasing call volume and dissolution of the Elk Grove Rural Fire Protection District, we hired six additional firefighters and purchased a fourth frontline ambulance in 2023. This enabled the Fire Department to place a second ambulance in service south of the railroad tracks. South Mount Prospect is home to our most densely populated areas and has consistently generated the most calls for service for the last several decades. Fire Station 11 allows the department to transition from a 3-district to a 4-district response, evenly distributing call volume and improving response times through the community.
Fire Chief John Dolan and Deputy Fire Chief Tom Wang presented the Department’s new 4-district response plan at the June 11, 2024 Neighborhood Committee of the Whole Meeting. The presentation is embedded below. Please review the presentation for additional information.
Fire Station 11 began serving the community on Thursday, July 11, 2024.
