The Mount Prospect Public Works Department is hosting a Household Hazardous Waste collection event:
- September 26, 2026: 8am - 2pm by appointment only
The event will be held at Public Works – 1700 W Central Road by appointment only.
All household hazardous waste appointments have been filled. Please continue to check the appointment calendar for any cancellations.
This event is for MOUNT PROSPECT RESIDENTS ONLY. No business or commercial waste will be accepted

There are three long-term household chemical waste collection facilities in Illinois.

- Operated by the City of Chicago and the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA)
- Tuesdays: 7 a.m. to Noon
- Thursdays: 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- 1st Saturday of month: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Accepts Household Chemical Waste
- Accepts computer materials
- Hosts a free latex paint swap

The State of Illinois Environmental Protection Agency holds one day hazardous waste collections each year in the spring and fall. Refer to the State of Illinois EPA website for a schedule and details on acceptable materials.
