Overview

The Public Works Department has completed a drainage improvement plan for Forest Avenue in the Prospect Meadows Subdivision. The plan is to increase capacity and conveyance of the storm sewer system, which will minimize the potential for flooding within the Public Rights-of Way within the subdivision.  The improvements will also provide an outlet for residents to utilize, in resolving flooding of their private property.  The drainage improvements include: installation of storm sewer pipe from 12” to 36” in diameter, installation of manholes, inlets and flared end sections, regrading of the parkway ditches, and restoration of driveway aprons and parkway areas damaged by construction activities.

After completing the installation of the storm sewer, Forest Avenue roadway will be resurfaced. The resurfacing work will also include a series of traffic calming measures to slow traffic as approved by the Village Transportation Safety commission and Village Board of Trustees.

What kind of work will be done?

In general, the process of installing the new storm sewers will include:

  • Excavating and installing the new storm sewers in the pavement along the west side of Forest Avenue.
  • Installing manholes, catch basins, and inlets.
  • Regrading ditches
  • Resurfacing Forest Avenue and installing traffic calming measures.
  • Seeding/Sodding of any parkways disturbed during construction.

Construction Schedule

The Village Board of Trustees has awarded a contract to install the storm sewer and traffic calming measures to Mauro Sewer Construction. The contractor has been instructed to start work on July 24th. We anticipate that construction will be completed by the end of September.

What about access to my driveway?

Access to driveways crossed by the sewer installation will be interrupted at times during the construction.  When your driveway access is interrupted, you can expect to be without access for a few hours.  We will attempt to notify you ahead of time by door tags and knocking on your door to allow you time to move your car if necessary. During the time you cannot access your driveway, you will be permitted to park on nearby Village streets, outside of the construction zone.  If you have special needs due to a disability, please contact the Public Works Department.

Will services to my home be affected?

There will be no changes in your regular services such as garbage pick-up, mail delivery, or emergency services from the Police and Fire Departments.  Please use caution when driving and walking through the construction zone.
