INTRODUCTION

The Village of Mount Prospect will be lining the existing water main along West Northwest Highway from Maple Street to Fairview Avenue. Construction crews will start to mobilize the first week in October 2019. Before excavation begins, a temporary water connection will be made so that your property will maintain water services throughout the project. After the liner is installed, water service lines will be connected back to the existing water main and street paving will follow. The decision to rehabilitate this water main is due to the aging underground infrastructure in the downtown area.

Due to multiple underground utility conflicts, IDOT and Union Pacific standards, the water main will be installed by cured-in-place-pipelining (CIPP) methods. Due to the location of the existing water main and existing underground utilities, temporary lane closures on Northwest Highway will be necessary.

Type of Work to be Performed

In general, the process of lining a water main  will include:

  • Saw Cutting of road
  • Open cut trenching of the road at valves, fire hydrants and service lines
  • Installing temporary water services to the properties affected
  • Televising the existing water main
  • Lining the existing water main
  • Pressure testing and chlorination of the new water main
  • Reinstatement of water services.
  • Pavement Restoration

HOW WILL MY WATER SERVICE BE AFFECTED?

There will be no extended disruption in your water service. Your property will maintain water service through a temporary service connection throughout the project's duration. However, there will be a short disruption when your water service will be transferred back to the existing water main. Notification will be sent to you prior to your service transfer.

WILL SERVICES TO MY PROPERTY BE AFFECTED?

There will be no changes in regular services such as garbage pick-up, mail delivery, or emergency services from the Police and Fire Departments. There may be times during the day when construction activities temporarily block access to your driveway as the new water main is installed. We will try to make these interruptions as short as possible. If new curb or sidewalk is to be installed in front of your property, access to driveways will be interrupted for a more extended period. In that case, you will receive more specific information about the schedule for this work and how it affects the driveway access within the next few weeks. If you have special needs due to a disability, please contact the Public Works Department. Please use caution when driving through the construction zone.
