As e-bikes, e-scooters, and e-motos have become a popular practical transportation alternative and a fun recreational option, the Village of Mount Prospect wants to assure that our community rides safely. It is essential that all riders and their families understand and comply with the Illinois laws and local traffic regulations to ensure everyone is safe. General Rules and Penalties

Reckless Operation: Operating any of these devices with conscious disregard for safety is prohibited and can result in impoundment.

Modifying Speed: You cannot knowingly modify an e- bike, low- speed e-scooter, or e-scooter to change the manufacture’s speed capability, nor can you operate one that has been altered.

Parent/Guardian Responsibility: Parents or legal guardians can be fined for knowingly allowing a minor (under 18) to violate any part of this ordinance.

Fines & Impoundment: Violations can result in fines not less then $75.00. Devices may be impounded for DUI, reckless operation, or repeated violations requiring a $150.00 administration fee for release. For a complete list of rules and the “Walk Your Wheels Zone” map visit the Village website.
