COMMUNITY HEALTH SERVICES
- Medical Equipment Lending Closet -- Medical equipment is located at the Human Services Department, on the 2nd floor in Village Hall, and is loaned to residents at no charge for three months. Equipment includes walkers, wheelchairs, crutches, commodes, etc.
Screening Clinic -- Our nurse sees patients for free blood pressure checks and $1 diabetic screening every Monday morning between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. in the Community Room on the 1st floor at Village Hall; Stay Fit Physical Therapy and Core Wellness, 127 W. Prospect Avenue on the fourth Wednesday of each month from 12:25 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.; and at the River Trails Parks District Weiss Center, 1500 E. Euclid Avenue, on the fourth Thursday of the month from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. No appointments are necessary.
Ask the Nurse Screening Clinic - The nurse will see patients at the Community Connections Center, located at 1711 W. Algonquin Road, and answer questions related to health and disease management as well as provide screenings for blood pressure; obesity; and $1 diabetes on Mondays from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. No appointments necessary.
- Cholesterol / Lipid Testing – Fasting Lipid Profile testing is performed on the second Thursday of every month for a $20 fee from 8:45 to 9:25 a.m., by appointment. The machine used offers very accurate readings of the total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, Triglycerides and VLDL, using only a finger stick blood sample. Fasting blood sugar testing is also included free of charge.
Health Education Classes and Seminars -- The nurse develops classes and seminars, or brings in experts on a wide range of topics of general interest quarterly. Past topics have included Cholesterol, Blood Pressure, Healthy Heart, Planning for Care, Memory Loss, etc.
RN Office Visit -- Appointments can be scheduled with the nurse for individual consultations on health related concerns such as medication counseling, diet & nutrition, health education, etc.
Community Outreach Nursing
Our nurse makes home visits to homebound senior or disabled residents who fall between the gaps of existing, insurance reimbursable, services, or who require monthly monitoring for specific diagnoses.
Senior Health Month
In October every year the village nurse plans educational and interactive programming for senior residents on a variety of topics.
