Welcome to the Mount Prospect Fire Department website.  The Fire Department continuously looks for ways to engage with our community and value their input, whether it involves dispersing important information or the actual services we provide for our citizens. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any concerns, questions, comments, or thoughts you may have. We operate with a deep sense of pride, passion, and professionalism, and want others to feel welcome, respected, and valued. Our administrative office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and we can be reached at 847-870-5660.

The Mount Prospect Fire Department provides a full range of services including fire suppression, advanced life support emergency medical care, technical rescue, hazardous materials response, fire prevention, and community risk reduction programs.  We are also proud to offer public education programs such as CPR classes, fire extinguisher training, school safety visits, and participate in community events throughout the year, helping residents of all ages stay informed and prepared.

The Mount Prospect Fire Department was founded as a volunteer organization in 1913 and has continuously changed to meet the needs of our community. The population of Mount Prospect was just over 300 in 1913, and the Department’s equipment consisted of some ladders, buckets, and a hand pumper.

Today, the Department has 84 full-time sworn members, 14 paid-on-call, 8 civilian employees, and over 30 Community Emergency Response Team members. The Fire Department has four firehouses strategically placed throughout the community for effective and efficient response. In 2023, the Department added a fourth ambulance to meet increasing EMS demand, especially in the southern portion of Mount Prospect (south of the Union Pacific railroad tracks), which continues to experience the highest call volume in the Village, accounting for more than 55% of all emergency responses. In response to this growth, the Department was able to open its fourth fire station in 2024, the second located on the south side of town, further enhancing safety, improving response times, and ensuring balanced coverage throughout the community.  That same year, the Department responded to the highest number of calls in its history, 7,887 calls for service, reflecting the continued growth and activity of our community.

I am extremely humbled and honored to serve as Fire Chief and wish to thank Mayor Hoefert, the Village Board of Trustees, Village Manager Michael Cassady, and most importantly, the residents of Mount Prospect for their trust and support of the Department. With the support of the Village, we are extremely proud to support this growing and diverse community.

Tom Wang

Fire Chief
