Cook County, DuPage County, Kane County, and Will County have partnered with the Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA) and the Citizens Utility Board (CUB) to coordinate a solar group buy across all four counties. Home and business owners throughout Cook, Will, DuPage and Kane counties may participate in this program to help pool their buying power to secure significant discounts that make installing solar more affordable.
On Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at 7 p.m., Mount Prospect hosted a Solar Power Hour presentation in the Village Board Room. The Solar Power Hour is an informational session, which explains the partnership between CUB and MREA to coordinate a residential solar group buy, “Solarize Chicagoland Program”. CUB provides details on how the group buy works, basics of solar and a typical residential solar system. Additionally, they explain cost, warranties, and available cost saving incentives (state solar renewable energy credits, federal tax credits, utility net metering credits).
On August 13, 2019, the Solarize Chicagoland Program reached its 150 kW benchmark and currently has 26 homeowners signed on to go solar. The next benchmark is at 251 kW plus about 35 homes participating, which will increase this additional rebate to $2.52/watt (*$70/kW Maximum Rebate).
The program is open to residents of Cook, Will, DuPage and Kane Counties. The CUB outreach team is more than half way through their presentation schedule (as of July 23, 2019) with about 20 presentations remaining. Residents have until September 30, 2019 to sign up for the program. Interested residents are provided a free no obligation site assessment from GRNE Solar.
