Gas - NICOR
NICOR provides natural gas service to the suburban Chicago area. 1-888-NICOR-4-U (1-888-642-6748)
NICOR periodically requests residents that have an inside the home gas meter to schedule an inspection to ensure there are no leaks. If the resident does not respond through a bill insert, NICOR will follow up with a letter asking for cooperation in setting up an appointment for an inspection that takes about 5 minutes. If any concerns are noted with the inside piping NICOR undertakes the repair immediately. This requirement is a federal pipeline mandate that has been in place for several years and requires the local distribution company (NICOR) to perform this system check every five years. Only qualified NICOR employees will appear for the inspections with their gas detection equipment and only at a scheduled appointment time. Residents are asked to cooperative with these inspections to ensure the inside meter is safety operating.
