Village Announces Event Cancellations

Post Date:05/06/2020 1:02 PM

As the Village of Mount Prospect continues to monitor local coronavirus data trends and respond to mandates in recent State of Illinois Executive Orders, the Village finds it is in the best interest of the public to cancel or postpone several community events scheduled for the upcoming months.

The majority of large-scale public events scheduled to occur this summer, including Mount Prospect’s Downtown Block Party, the Lions Club 4th of July Festival and Village’s 4th of July parade, will be cancelled. While some events are scheduled during the stay-at-home order, other cancelled events were scheduled to occur when physical distancing protocols are likely to be in place. A list of cancelled or modified events is noted below.

The Village has been in close contact with our community organizations, who are key to the success of these events, including the Mount Prospect Lions Club, Mount Prospect Chamber of Commerce, and Mount Prospect Downtown Merchants Association. We will continue to find creative ways to safely celebrate as a community and share them on our Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Experience Mount Prospect pages.

  • The Mount Prospect Human Services Department events typically held in the Farley Community Room or at the Community Connections Center are cancelled through July. This includes events such as Ageless Grace or Conversations in English, and the monthly blood drive.
  • The Mount Prospect Public Works Open House (May 19) is cancelled.
  • The Memorial Day Parade (May 25) is cancelled. The Village will run last year’s parade on MPDC, Channel 17 on Comcast and WOW and on Facebook. There will be a listing of veterans who have passed away since last Memorial Day.
  • Fridays on the Green concerts, held on Centennial Green, scheduled to start May 29, are cancelled through July.
  • The Village’s 4th of July Parade (July 4) and the Mount Prospect Lions Club 4th of July Festival (July 1 – 4) are cancelled.
  • Mount Prospect Downtown Block Party (July 24 and 25) is cancelled.
  • Celebration of Cultures (September 12) is cancelled.
  • The Mount Prospect Lions Club Farmers Market at the Metra East Commuter Lot, will likely open on time (June 7) but with considerable modification to operation. Some changes include vendors being limited to food vendors only, with booths spaced at least 10 feet apart and customers able to purchase pre-packaged produce only. Attendees should keep an eye out for special restrictions as the open date draws closer.
  • The Lions Club Bluesmobile Cruise Nights car shows (scheduled to start June 13) will likely be postponed if social distancing protocols are in place.
  • The Village will not approve requests for neighborhood block parties through the month of July.

Please note that this list is not all-inclusive. The status of any community event should be verified with the event’s organizer, and the Village will continue to update event calendar throughout the summer.
