Kitchen Fire Damages House

Post Date:12/23/2019 4:08 PM
At approximately 8 P.M. on December 22, 2019, Mount Prospect firefighters responded to a reported structure fire located on the 300 block of South George Street. Upon arrival, Mount Prospect firefighters were confronted with smoke coming from the front door of a single-family home. The fire was brought under control in approximately 10 minutes with no injuries reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation but appears to be accidental in nature.

No one was home when the fire was discovered. The homeowner opened her front door and found her house filled with smoke. She closed the door and dialed 911. Because of the homeowners fast reactions, the fire was confined to the kitchen. While $50,000 in damages are estimated, over $350,000 in property was saved. A dog was removed from the home by firefighters and appears to be doing well.

“This fire could have been much worse if it wasn’t for the closing of the front door and the quick actions of calling 911.” said Chief Brian Lambel. “At the same time, it is vital for everyone to check that there are working smoke alarms on all levels of the home.”
