Emerson Street Parking Deck Now Open to Some Commuters
Starting February 4, a total of 102 spaces on the 4th and 5th levels of the Emerson Street Parking Deck (between Village Hall & Library) will be available for Commuter Parking.
At this time, the parking will be available for PERMIT ONLY which will be offered to Mount Prospect residents that live north of Northwest Highway and the train tracks. These residents will be able to purchase a monthly permit for the Emerson Street Parking Deck for $20 (half the price of $40 month for other commuter lot permits in town). Spaces are available each day on a first come-first served basis, just as other public commuter lots.
The Reduced Fee Permit is valid only at the Emerson Street Parking Deck (cannot be used in other public commuter lots) and must be purchased at Public Works (1700 W. Central Road, Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) or the Finance Department at Village Hall (50 S. Emerson Street, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.). Proof of residency is required and will be verified prior to permit issuance.
Applications can be mailed, dropped off in person to Public Works [1700 W. Central Rd] or Finance Department in Village Hall [50 S. Emerson St], or placed in the 24 hour drop box outside of Village Hall.
“The Village offering this solution in response to concerns about traffic flow on the south side of the tracks,” said Village Manager Michael Cassady. “It is the hope that offering this additional parking option to residents who live north of the tracks will help alleviate rush hour traffic within downtown, and may reduce the number of vehicles crossing the tracks at Emerson and Main Streets.”
There may be modifications to this program, such as offering daily fee parking, in the future.
