South Mount Prospect Subarea Plan 2018 Update

South-MP-Logo200The Village of Mount Prospect is in the beginning stages of updating its South Mount Prospect Subarea Plan. A subarea plan is a detailed plan prepared for a smaller geographic area within a community, but still sets long-term goals, policies and strategies for addressing and guiding future development for the next 10+ years. The plan serves as a guide to residents, property owners, and decision makers to assist them with making choices consistent with the vision for the south side of the community. The study area for the South Mount Prospect Subarea Plan 2018 update is the area south of Golf Road, west of Elmhurst Road, and north of I-90.

The first South Mount Prospect Subarea Plan was created in 2009. A number of items in the plan are no longer relevant, and the plan is in need of an update. The 2018 plan update will feature new strategies and goals pertaining to housing, land use and zoning, open space and recreation, community services, transportation, and economic development. The plan will also include the recent annexations on the south side. Current Village long-range plans, most notably the 2017 Comprehensive Plan update, and studies will assist in the creation of this subarea plan. 

Future community engagement at various community events and open houses will allow the public a voice to share their opinions on the update. An online survey about the update is available here.
