Christopher G. Novaczyk

On July 23, 2026, Mount Prospect Police Detectives charged Christopher G. Novaczyk, 43 years-old, currently unhoused, with three felony counts of Attempt Vehicular Hijacking, one felony count of Aggravated Attempt Vehicular Hijacking, one felony count of Aggravated Battery, two felony counts of Criminal Damage to Property, and one misdemeanor count of Criminal Damage to Property. These charges stem from incidents that occurred on July 22, 2026, at approximately 12:45 PM near the intersection of Rand and Mt. Prospect Roads.

On July 22, 2026, at 12:45 PM, Mount Prospect Police Officers received multiple 911 calls of a male subject, later identified as Christopher G. Novaczyk, near the intersection of Rand and Mt. Prospect Roads approaching occupied vehicles and striking them with a metal pipe. Novaczyk unsuccessfully attempted to enter multiple vehicles driving northwest bound on Rand Road and struck several vehicles with the metal pipe, causing damage to the vehicles. Two victims were able to restrain Novaczyk in the roadway prior to police arrival. When Mount Prospect Police Officers arrived on scene, they took Novaczyk into custody. Novaczyk was transported to the hospital by the Mount Prospect Fire Department for evaluation.

While responding to this incident, a Mount Prospect Police Officer was involved in a traffic crash with another vehicle on Rand Road at the intersection with the private driveway for the Texas Roadhouse restaurant, causing the police squad car to leave the roadway and strike a tree in the parkway on the north side of Rand Road. The Officer was transported to the hospital and treated for minor injuries. The other driver was transported to a local hospital for a medical evaluation.

It was learned that prior to Novaczyk attempting to enter occupied vehicles along Rand Road, he had caused traffic crashes on Euclid Avenue and fled from Euclid Avenue near River Road and the intersection of Euclid Avenue and Wheeling Road. Novaczyk also caused a traffic crash on Rand Road near Henry Street. No injuries were reported from the vehicle occupants of these three crashes.

Novaczyk was transported to a detention hearing on July 24, 2026, where he was ordered detained until his next court appearance on August 21, 2026, in room 108 at 9:00 AM in the 3rd District Court of Rolling Meadows.
