Operational Update to Snow Control Plan

Post Date:01/29/2026

Due to supply chain issues with salt and calcium chloride, current inventories of snow and ice control materials are low and unable to be replenished. At this time, normal Village winter maintenance operations will need to be adapted.

Resupply timelines for both solid salt and liquid calcium chloride are currently unknown. As a result, material conservation measures must be implemented immediately to ensure continued serviceability of the roadway network during winter weather events.

Until confirmed deliveries of solid and liquid deicing materials resume, the Village will be following a reduced application strategy as follows:

Highways: Apply salt and liquid deicing materials at a reduced rate of 300 pounds per lane-mile and 20 gallons of liquid.
Collector Streets: Apply salt and liquid deicing materials at a reduced rate of 200 pounds per lane-mile and 20 gallons of liquid at the center lines only after the snow has abated.
Secondary Streets: Limit treatment to “intersections only”, with an application rate of 200 pounds per lane-mile and 20 gallons of liquid at the center lines only after the snow has abated.

All liquid applications will consist of a blended anti-icing/deicing solution comprised of 90% salt brine and 10% calcium chloride, to optimize performance while conserving calcium chloride reserves.

These measures are intended to extend existing material supplies, prioritize critical roadway classifications, and maintain minimum acceptable levels of service until supply chain conditions stabilize, and deliveries can be reestablished.

The Village understands that road conditions will NOT be to the same standard that residents are accustomed to. These measures are, unfortunately, necessary given the current circumstances. We thank you for your patience and understanding during this time.
