Commander Ryan successfully completed the ten (10) week Staff and Command Program held in Elmhurst, Illinois between September 8, 2025 – January 16, 2026. This program, which was implemented by the Center for Public Safety in 1983, has graduated over 21,000 students both nationally and internationally. Commander Ryan was a student in SPSC Class #620, which accommodated 38 students for the ten-week period. Commander Ryan served as Vice-President of his SPSC class.
The School of Police Staff and Command is the most academically rigorous program available for experienced mid- and upper-level supervisory personnel. Through an innovative combination of academic principles blended with practical applications, the intensive curriculum focuses on areas critical to successful senior law enforcement leadership and management. In addition to lectures, the curriculum is designed for practical application of academic principles plus course activities that encourage class members to learn from one another’s experiences.
The Mount Prospect Police Department anticipates a variety of benefits from Commander Ryan’s attendance at this program. Many of the program’s graduates go on to achieve a variety of leadership positions within their respective agencies.
