On Sunday, July 27, 2025, at approximately 11:33 pm, the Mount Prospect Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 1723 Forest Cove Dr., a three-story, 12-unit multi-family apartment building.

Mount Prospect Engines 11 and 12 arrived simultaneously in under 6 minutes and found heavy smoke and fire coming from a first-floor unit. Firefighters initiated an interior attack and brought the fire under control within approximately 13 minutes. Their quick actions successfully contained the fire to the unit of origin, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the building.

Approximately 30 firefighters operated on scene. Mutual aid was provided by the Arlington Heights, Glenview, Prospect Heights, Elk Grove Village and Des Plaines Fire Departments.

One occupant was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. While fire damage was limited to a single unit, all 12 apartments were deemed uninhabitable for the evening.

Mount Prospect Human Services, along with the American Red Cross, were on scene providing assistance to displaced residents.

The fire appears to be accidental in nature. Damage is estimated at approximately $150,000. The exact cause remains under investigation.

“This fire could have been significantly worse if not for the quick action of tenants evacuating and the prompt notification to 911,” said Deputy Chief Tom Wang. “The firefighters on scene did an excellent job limiting damage to one unit and controlling this fire. Please ensure your family practices a home or apartment fire escape plan—it can make a big difference.”
