Previously 100% of solid waste services were funded through property taxes.  The problem with this funding mechanism is that all properties were receiving the same service level, but paying different amounts for the service.  In an effort to create a more equitable situation each residential property receiving curbside collection will pay a portion of the cost of service through a direct charge of $75.  The remaining amount, approximately $136, will be paid through property taxes.

• Residents Receiving Village Water
  Properties receiving Village water will see an extra line item on their water bill for the direct charge.  The $75  will be divided equally amongst all six water bills.
   
• Residents Receiving Illinois American Water
  Residents receiving Illinois American water will receive  three bills (January, May and September) with the $75 annual charge divided equally amongst them.
