ARBOR DAY TREE PLANTING CEREMONY 2008

ARBOR DAY TREE PLANTING CEREMONY APRIL 25th!

Mark your calendar - the Village of Mount Prospect Public Works Department will host an Arbor Day tree planting ceremony at 1:30pm on Friday April 25, 2008. The ceremony will be held at Fairview Elementary School, at 300 N. Fairview Avenue in Mount Prospect.

During the ceremony, Mayor Irvana Wilks, various Village officials, and students and staff from Fairview will plant an ‘Aristocrat’ Callery Pear tree. The Mayor will recite an original poem she wrote to commemorate the occasion. The students will perform songs and skits about trees. Also helping with the planting will be members of the Garden Club of Mount Prospect; the Garden Club has contributed funds to help the Village purchase the Arbor Day tree. Additionally, Public Works mascot P.W. Paws will make a special appearance.

Finally, the Village will also commemorate its recent receipt of the Tree City USA Award and Growth Award from the National Arbor Day Foundation. This is the 23rd consecutive year Mount Prospect has received the Tree City USA award, and the 7th time for the Growth Award, for its urban forestry program.

The public is invited to attend the Arbor Day ceremony and presentation of the Tree City USA Awards on April 25th. For further details, call the Public Works Department at (847) 870-5640.
