  • Income Tax Assistance -- This service is offered free of charge to senior citizens filing simple returns, and is sponsored by the AARP group.
     
  • Odd Job Referrals -- The names of plumbers, electricians, painters, carpenters, house cleaners, yard workers snow shovels, etc., are available for residents who need to employ tradesmen to do odd jobs around their homes.

SENIOR ACTIVITIES

  • Club and Organization Meetings -- Many senior citizen groups hold their meetings in the Village Hall Community Center. These groups organize their meetings independently of the Department. The groups may sponsor travelogues, lectures, bingo, cards, holiday parties, luncheons, and the like.
     
  • Computer Partners -- A teenager or adult volunteer is matched with a senior citizen to teach basic computer skills. Meetings are held at the Mount Prospect Public Library or Prospect High School.
     
  • Monthly Newsletter -- A schedule of activities and important information is published for senior residents.
     
  • Senior Citizens Advisory Council -- Formed in 1973, when the seniors met at the country club, this group of active men and women played an integral role in the establishment of the Senior Center, whose programs now meet at the Village Hall Community Center. The Advisory Council meets on a monthly basis at the Community Center to discuss ideas and issues pertaining to senior citizens as well as plan events that decrease isolation.

TRANSPORTATION

  • Reduced Fare Taxicab Program -- All residents, sixty-five years of age or older, or those meeting the qualifications for disabled status, are eligible for this reduced fare transportation program.
     
  • RTA Special User Card -- All residents, sixty-five years of age or older, are eligible for a FREE Ride card.
