| Mount Prospect Medical Reserve Corps (MPMRC) |
The Village of Mount Prospect is developing an interest list to form a group
that will offer medical assistance in emergencies – from tornados to terrorist
attacks.
The new Mount Prospect Medical Reserve Corp (MPMRC) would pull together
volunteer doctors, nurses, pharmacists, mental health professionals and other
health-care workers to supplement village resources if disaster strikes. Typical
duties could include assisting Emergency Response Teams, providing care to
victims with non-serious injuries, setting up and managing emergency shelter
areas, facilitating patient transfers, providing resources for medical intake
information, or supporting local health programs.
“I think it’s an opportunity for them to use their knowledge and skills to give
back to the community in a time when our regular resources and professional
resources would be stretched,” said Mount Prospect Human Services Director Nancy
Morgan.
Mount Prospect is one of almost 50 municipalities in Illinois to have formed a
Citizen Corps Council. The Federal Emergency Management Agency guides the work
of the Councils around the country. The MPMRC will be one of a possible five
groups under the Mount Prospect Citizens Corp Council.
Morgan said that the village hopes the MPMRC will provide an avenue for local
medical professionals to respond to their community’s needs during a time of
crisis.
Interested health professionals are urged to call the Village of Mount Prospect
Human Services Department at 847-870-5680 or email for
more information and/or to be placed on the interest list.
