  • Smoke alarms can help provide early warning of smoke or fire. However, it may be difficult to decide what type of detector you should buy for your home. First, it is important to understand where you should install detectors.

  • It is Illinois State Law that requires detectors through out your house. Smoke detectors should be placed on every level of your house, with in 15-feet of the sleeping areas and a detector in every sleeping quarter.

  • Detectors should be installed on the ceiling or on the walls depending on the manufacturers installation requirements.

  • Smoke detectors are only good for between 8 to 10-years. After that time they should be replaced.
