Secure the site
- Secure the site from further damage by weather, theft or vandalism.
- Contact a board up company if the damage is excessive on the property.
This should only be done after talking with your insurance company.
- Contact your insurance agent to report a loss.
- Keep all receipts for items that might be purchased after the incident.
- Remove any valuables from the building if you need to leave.
Cautions after the incident
- Watch for signs of heat or smoke – Call 911 if this occurs.
- Check with a licensed electrician before turning on any electrical
appliances.
- Plumbing fixtures need to winterized.
- Beverages, medicines and food exposed to heat, smoke or soot should be
discarded.
- Freezers or refrigerators left unopened will hold their temperature for
a short time.
