May 5-9, 2008

'In 1979, the Children’s Fire Safety Festival was held for the first time at the Randhurst Shopping Center. The intention was to provide the children of the surrounding areas an entertaining and educational learning experience in fire safety practices. This tradition has continued over 25 years!

This annual event is held the first week of May and continues to be a fun and educational event. Students and teachers visit fire safety stations that include many hands-on experiences. During their visits, students visit: Firefighter Frank and his friend with an interactive puppet show, practice staying low from smoke and stop, drop and roll. Visit a paramedic and an ambulance to see how the fire department can help make you feel better. See close up what a fire fighter looks like in their full protective clothing and slide down a real fire pole!

A great deal of time and effort is spent in making the Children’s Fire Safety Festival successful. The generosity of time and talent from twelve surrounding fire departments and the participating firefighters helps make this festival work so well.

It is our hope that the children who participated in this festival bring home a better understanding of what to do if a fire breaks out in the home or what to do if their clothes catch on fire. We continually emphasized the importance of smoke detectors and residential sprinkler systems.
