| Notice of Water Rate Increase |
|
On November 20, 2007, the Village Board approved a 5% increase to water and
sewer utility rates. The increase was determined necessary after a review of
the proposed budget for 2008. The Village completed a water rate study in
August 2005 which established a proposed schedule for increasing the
combined water and sewer rate annually through 2009 when a follow-up rate
study would be performed. Village has done this to avoid spikes in the rates
and provide for a more moderate increase. Each year the Finance Department
will review funding needs and determine whether an increase is necessary. If
current funding levels are sufficient to support operation no increase will
be recommended.
Recently, the Village was informed by the City of Chicago that the rate for
water purchased from them through our water cooperative is going to increase
an average of 15% over the next three years. As a result, the date for a
follow-up rate study has been moved up to early 2008.
The current combined rate for water and sewer is $5.68. Effective with all
billings after January 1, 2008, the new combined rate will be $5.96. If a
Mount Prospect household uses 15,000 gallons of water over a two-month
period, their bimonthly water and sewer usage fee would be $99.40, an
increase of $4.20. This includes the $5 monthly sewer construction charge.
There was no change is this sewer construction flat fee.
Please contact the Water Billing Department at 847-392-6000 if you have any
questions regarding this rate change. |
