Businesses located in a pedestrian-oriented downtown neighborhood do not
always have the same opportunity for signage as businesses in other districts.
The audience they are targeting also differs. Just as a sidewalk sign will not
attract the attention of a motorist traveling at 40 mph, a passing pedestrian
may not see a large façade sign. Recognizing that businesses in the downtown
district (B5 and B5C zoning classifications) have unique restrictions and needs,
the Village Board has adopted a modification to the Village Code Sign
Regulations to allow sidewalk signs. Sidewalk Sign
