The Environmental Health Division is responsible for improving the quality of life for Mount Prospect residents through multi-family housing inspections, health inspection programs and code enforcement.

Housing Services

  • Mount Prospect is one four communities in Illinois that has a Landlord/Tenants Rights ordinance. The ordinance defines the rights of landlords and tenants. Knowing your rights as a landlord and a tenant is a key to having a good relationship. The ordinance also provides for the licensure and inspection of multi-family rental units to ensure that residents have a safe place to live.

  •  Mount Prospect licenses and inspects Multi-family rental properties. The exteriors, common areas and twenty percent of the apartments are inspected annually. Single family homes are inspected on a complaint basis. Your Guide to Property Maintenance Inspection explains the inspection process and provides a checklist for landlords of the twenty-five areas that the Environmental Health Division inspects.

  • When searching for an apartment, please consider our Tips for Tenants.

Health Services

The Village’s Health Service Program routinely inspects restaurants, food stores, and public swimming pools. Staff works closely with State and the Cook County Health Department to protect out food supply and provide a safe environment in our public swimming pools.

Code Enforcement

Mount Prospect has developed regulations to preserve the community and its neighborhoods. Maintained homes, businesses, and property preserve property values. The Property Maintenance Guide and Commercial Area Property Maintenance Guide explain these regulations. This Property Maintenance Video may also assist you.
