To make certain that the residential garage sale
concept is preserved, the Village requires that groups or individuals
who plan to hold such a sale obtain a free permit before it begins. The
permits can be obtained at the Building Division on the second floor of
the Village Hall, or you can simply print out the form below once you
have submitted it (no visit to VH necessary).
Restrictions
-
No more than three sales are permitted per calendar year by any group or
individual, with at least 30 days between each sale.
-
A sale may last no longer than three days, with a rain date the
following weekend.
-
Signs must be removed on the last day of the sale.
-
Please be sure to include a rain date on your permit.
A $25 fine will be imposed for each day a sale operator is in violation
of the Village ordinance governing garage sales.
The Village recognizes that garage sales are a suburban tradition.
They're a good way to get rid of no longer needed stuff, and to raise
funds for worthy causes. However, they must not be conducted at the
expense or inconvenience of neighbors or the community at large. Mount
Prospect's garage sale ordinance and the required free permit are
intended to guard against the conduct of such sales as a business
enterprise. For more information, please call 870-5675 (TDD: 392-6064).
