Philosophy of the Center
The vision of the Center is to create a healthy Mount Prospect community by providing a pathway to Village services, social services, medical health, personal safety, library services, quality education, economic self-sufficiency, jobs, cultural enrichment and other services for all residents.
The Village has developed partnerships with various local community and social services agencies, which has allowed the Center to increase the level of services available for residents. These partnerships have created a “one stop shopping” for assistance by making available a wide range of services that complement each other. Although the Village is the lead agency for the Center, these partner agencies provide services that enhance current Village services. The partner agencies include the Mount Prospect Public Library, Northwest Community Hospital, School Districts 214 and 59. The Mount Prospect Public Library has developed the South Branch, which will provide needed library services to this area of town. Additional partner agencies are interested in joining this unique and beneficial concept of providing services and programs for residents.
The Center is located in an area of town with a high concentration of low/moderate income families. The Center is easily accessible, and is located within a ½ mile radius of many residents and businesses of multiple diverse cultures, ethnic and racial makeup.

History of the Center
Since the early 1990’s, the Village has considered developing a resource center to be located in the south part of town, but did not have the resources to implement the project. In 2007, the Village received a grant of $50,000 from the Chicago Community Trust to perform a feasibility study for a resource center. This feasibility study was comprised of three components: a needs assessment, development of an operating budget and a sustainability plan. In 2008, the Chicago Community Trust awarded the Village a second $50,000 grant to work on start-up costs, marketing and business plans. In 2009, the Village was awarded a third $50,000 grant to help fund the Center.

Partner Agencies
As the Center’s lead agency, the Village of Mount Prospect worked with other services providers in the community to gain their support and involvement. In addition to the Village, the Mount Prospect Public Library, School District 214 Community Education, Community Consolidated School District 59, and Northwest Community Hospital are partners in the Center.
Community Connection Center Staff
- Human Services Department
The Human Services Department’s Victoria Bran, LCSW, is the Community Connections Center’s Coordinator. Victoria holds two different roles as coordinator. She works with all Village departments and partner agencies to ensure that a general cooperation and cohesive working relationship exists between the Center’s agencies, that referrals take place among the Center’s programs and that all partners take a global view of providing services to the community. She also works with individuals and families to enhance their social, mental & physical well being by providing counseling, advocacy, case management, health screenings, outreach social services & public health nursing, Information & referral, and emergency financial assistance.
- Police Department
The Police Department, through the work of Joseph Filipek, develops collaborative relationships among individuals, businesses and organizations. Joe develops and implements solutions to specific problems that are identified through these collaborative relationship. He provides education to residents and business owners regarding crime, crime prevention & problem solving, as well as provides information on local, state, federal and traffic laws. Joe also works closely with the preteen and teenage groups and develops programs for youth that instill community involvement.

The Fire, Community Development, Public Works and Village Administration Departments will schedule appointments, provide information and hold presentations from time to time at the Center.

Community Partner Agencies
- Library South Branch
The South Branch is an easily accessible, neighborhood library. They offer books, movies, music, internet-connected computers with Microsoft office, homework and reading help, GED and ELL materials, information, preschool storytimes, teen programs and small business resources. Materials are available in a variety of languages, including English, Spanish, Polish, Russian, Gujarati, and Korean.

- Northwest Community Hospital
Northwest Community Hospital sponsors the “Promotoras de Salud”, health education with particular focus on chronic disease management, health screenings, and education on how to utilize health systems.
- Consolidated School District 59
Consolidated School District 59 provides parent education work shops and will focus on younger children, from birth to five years of age, who have not yet entered the school system.
- District 214 Community Education
District 214 Community Education provides adult education and family literacy programming: Citizenship Preparation and Naturalization application assistance, Public Benefits application assistance, adult English as a Second Language classes, and parent-child interactive literacy activities.
