Emergency Alert System Registration Now Available

Floods. Road closures. Gas leaks, and other emergencies. How will you find out about Village-wide emergencies and disasters? The Village of Mount Prospect uses an Emergency Alert System to provide residents and businesses with information about local emergencies.  Should an emergency occur, Village personnel can use the Emergency Alert System to notify and provide information to thousands of residents in a matter of minutes.

The Five Ws (and one H) of the Emergency Alert System

Q:  WHO sends out the Emergency Alert messages?
A: 
The Village sends out messages to residents and businesses through the Emergency Alert System. If the Village is unable to send an Emergency Alert message, such as during a disaster, the 9-1-1 Dispatch Center can also initiate a message on the Village’s behalf.

Q:  WHAT should I do when I get an Emergency Alert message?
A: 
When you receive an Emergency Alert message make sure that you follow all of the prompts so you receive the message in its entirety. Important information is contained in these notifications so please listen to the whole message.  If you miss an Emergency Alert message you can always call the Village's hotline at (847) 870-6622 and listen to the same message.

Q:  WHEN will the Emergency Alert System be used?
A: 
The Village will use the Emergency Alert System send messages to residents and businesses during emergencies. The purpose of these messages will be to provide residents with information relevant to the specific emergency. The Village may also use the Emergency Alert System to improve public awareness in non-emergencies such as city events, road closures due to construction and special services.

Q:  WHERE will I get the Emergency Alert messages?
A: 
The Emergency Alert System delivers messages across all communication platforms, including, cell and land line phone numbers, e-mail addresses, instant messaging, fax, etc. Emergency Alert messages are automatically sent to all listed land line phone numbers in the Village, but residents can add additional contact information, in order of preference, into the system. This will ensure that you receive these important messages at any time, no matter where you are.

Q:  WHY don’t I always get the Emergency Alert messages when other residents do?
A: 
The Emergency Alert System only contains listed land line phone numbers from existing 9-1-1 data and additional contact information provided by residents. If you don’t have a land line, or you lose power to your house, you won’t be able to receive the message. To ensure that you receive these important messages you always the option of entering additional contact information in the Emergency Alert System such as your cell phone number, work phone number, and e-mail address.

Q:  HOW can I sign-up to receive Emergency Alert messages?
A: 
To register your phone number or e-mail address with the Emergency Alert System, or add additional contact information, go to www.mountprospect.org/emergencyalert. Remember to record and keep your user name and password so you can update your information in the future. If you do not have internet access at home, you can use the Mount Prospect Library or have a family member register your contact information. Rest assured that the information in the Emergency Alert System is never shared with telemarketing agencies and will only be used for Village purposes.
