Putting money away in a tax-deferred retirement savings account was probably an easy decision. How and when you withdraw the money requires careful decision-making. If you have money sitting in a previous employer's 401(k) or you are retired and trying to decide when to begin taking withdrawals from your IRA, then this workshop is for you. Are you ready for the transition to digital television on February 17? If you do not have cable, satellite, or a digital TV, you will need a digital converter box. In other words, if you use an antenna to receive your television signal and you bought your TV before 2008, you will most likely need to purchase a digital converter box. Did you request your converter box coupons yet? The government is offering coupons worth $40 off a converter box. Each household is entitled to two coupons. Coupons are mailed 2 - 4 weeks after you apply for them and are valid for 90 days from date of issue. To apply for your coupons, go to www.DTV2009.gov.

Need help applying for your coupons? On January 26, Library staff will be available in the Computer Training Room to help you register online for digital TV converter box coupons. To be sure there is a computer available for your use, you must sign up for one of the time slots offered. Space is limited to 10 people per half hour. Registration is required. Mount Prospect Public Library The Ultimate Chocolate Raffle
Chocolate lovers will soon have something to savor when the Mount Prospect Public Library Foundation kicks off its “Unbelievable Chocolate Raffle.” Beginning on Friday, January 30, you will have the opportunity to indulge yourself by purchasing a chance to take home one of the many decadent chocolate-related items or sumptuous specialty baskets aimed at the chocolate lover in all of us.

Baskets and raffle items will be on display in the Lobby through Sunday, February 8, giving everyone the opportunity to see the items firsthand and purchase raffle tickets from a volunteer, or inquire at the Registration Desk. Winners need not be present to win. Tickets will sell for $1 each or six for $5.

All proceeds from the “Unbelievable Chocolate Raffle” will benefit the Mount Prospect Public Library Foundation, which raises funds for special programming and events at the Library.

Tuesday, February 17, 1:30 p.m.
As part of the continuing celebration of his 200th birthday, President Abraham Lincoln will spend the afternoon moderating a discussion of the compromises and challenges that confronted our young nation. The audience will be asked to confront the same issues that faced our founding fathers, follow the decisions that led us to civil war, and understand the sacrifices made to keep the nation together while putting an end to slavery. For her part, Mary Todd Lincoln will discuss the woman’s place during these tumultuous times, from the roles women had to assume to the rules of fashion they were expected to follow. By inviting audience participation, the Lincolns offer an afternoon that promises to be both enlightening and entertaining. Registration is required. February 23 Mount Prospect Public Library Spring Storytime Registration Begins
Between February 23 and March 5, parents can register their children – birth through age 6 – for the Library’s winter storytime programs. This session, with a variety of times and age groups, will run from March 16 - April 24. Due to the popularity of these storytimes, registration is determined by lottery and is reserved for Mount Prospect cardholders. To participate in the lottery, please sign up in person at the Youth Services desk.

The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay: A Novel by Michael Chabon
