On July 23, 2011, the Village endured a record-setting rainfall event that resulted in widespread flooding.  On August 16, 2011, the Village Board commissioned Burns & McDonnell Consulting Engineers to analyze the causes of flooding and present their findings in a comprehensive flood study report.  Burns & McDonnell was also asked to identify cost-effective recommendations to mitigate defined and recurrent flooding problems.

Burns & McDonnell's report was presented to the Village Board at the March 13, 2012, Committee of the Whole meeting.  Its findings and recommendations were subsequently discussed at the April 10, 2012, Committee of the Whole meeting (COW), May 22, 2012, COW meeting, and September 11, 2012, COW meeting.
