Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony - May 26
Parade participants will line up at Emerson & Busse between 9:00 a.m. - 9:15 a.m. Parade begins at 9:35 a.m. The Parade Route is as follows: South on Emerson to Lincoln to the Veterans’ Memorial Band Shell at Lions Park where a ceremony will be held. Any interested citizens can march in the parade, and veterans are especially encouraged to join in. Call Parade Coordinator Bob Fey at 299-3510 for more information.

Immediately following the parade, all are invited to the annual Memorial Day ceremony at Lion’s Park Veterans Memorial Band shell. Public displays of patriotism are essential if the notion of remembering war dead is to be instilled in our youth.

The Memorial Day ceremony is designed to honor those American warriors who made the greatest sacrifice possible – giving ones life on behalf of others. Patriotic songs will be played by the Community Band lead by Ralph Wilder. Also, a medley of patriotic songs by the Prospect Marching Knights under the direction of Chris Barnum. The Keynote speaker is Major General Richard Stearney, US Army Retired, the former commander of the 86th US Army Reserve Command in Chicago. Mayor Irvana Wilks will read a poem written in tribute to American war dead buried in France and given to her by our sister city Sevres, France. Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1337 will fire a 21 gun salute. Prospect Knights will play the National Anthem. Steve Chmela will sound “Taps”.

We encourage all to attend. It is a time for remembering.
