Public Works is responsible for many different services including the water and sewer system, solid waste services, snow plowing, tree maintenance, streets and sidewalks. The purpose of the Open House is to show residents the different duties of the Public Works Department in a fun and entertaining way.


Community Wide Garage Sale

Each participating homeowner holds their own garage sale just as they would at any other time of year. The difference is that thousands of shoppers are attracted to this large group sale, said to be the largest of its kind in Illinois.

Memorial Day Parade

Emerson and Busse to Lions Park
Parade participants will line up at Emerson & Busse between 9:00 a.m. - 9:15 a.m. Parade begins at 9:35 a.m. The Parade Route is as follows: South on Emerson to Lincoln to the Veterans’ Memorial Band Shell at Lions Park where a ceremony will be held. Any interested citizens can march in the parade, and veterans are especially encouraged to join in. Call Parade Coordinator Bob Fey 299-3510 for more information.

Midsummer Downtown Party

Do-It-Yourself Sousa

Veterans’ Memorial Band Shell, Lions Park
Here’s your chance to play with one of the area’s finest musical organizations for one concert. The Mount Prospect Community Band welcomes guest musicians for the annual Do-It-Yourself Sousa Concert. Family Bike Ride

It’s time once again to put air in your bike tires and head over to Melas Park at for the Mount Prospect Family Bike Ride. There will be two paths, a shorter ride for the youngsters and a 10-mile ride for everyone else. Check-in and registration begins at 9:00 a.m.

Veterans’ Day

The Veterans’ Day Parade and Ceremony will be held Saturday at the Veterans’ Memorial Band Shell. The procession will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Lions Park recreation center and will march around to the band shell where a ceremony will be held. Please come out and honor and support our veterans.

Winter Parade

Prospect Avenue
The parade will step off at 5:00 p.m. from the Maple Street commuter parking lot and will proceed down Lincoln St. to Emerson St., and follow along toward Prospect Ave., ending at the corner of Prospect Ave. and Elmhurst Ave. The parade will feature live reindeer, marching bands, floats, choral groups and Santa and Mrs. Claus. A refreshment tent will be set up at Prospect Avenue and Wille Street and refreshments will be served before, during and after the parade including hot cider, hot cocoa, cookies and more.
