St. Emily School Collects Nearly 5,000 Soup Cans for Mount Prospect Food Pantry and Others

Post Date:02/09/2017
Thank you St. Emily School for collecting 4800 soup cans as part of your "Souperbowl" contest. The Mount Prospect Food Pantry is one of the grateful recipients. This kind gesture goes a long way and shows that Mount Prospect lives up to its motto, "Where Friendliness is a Way of Life."

After students collected the soup cans, the School held a soup lunch where the students has only soup for lunch. The "Souperbowl" contest and soup lunch were all part of Catholic Schools Week.

According to St. Emily School's Spanish and Computer teacher, Erin Boyle Folino, who was part of the "Souperbowl" Committee, "The students learned they could help others and still have fun. With the soup lunch, they could relate to how people that could only have soup would feel."

A 2nd grade and a 5th grade class tied for the most cans donated and will enjoy a pizza lunch with the pastor and principal.

Thank you Mount Prospect Fire Department and Mount Prospect Public Works Department for offering a helping hand to collect the food donations. The Mount Prospect Human Services Department will share the soup cans with families and residents who need it most this winter season.
