Police Department Investigates Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking

On Friday, January 20, 2017 at 5:00 A.M., the Mount Prospect Police Department responded to a report of a vehicular hijacking in the 2200 block of South Lexington Drive. The preliminary investigation revealed the victim had just entered his Chevrolet Tahoe, which was parked in the apartment complex parking lot, when a male subject approached the driver’s side window. The subject knocked on the driver’s side window and pointed a silver colored handgun at the victim. The offender ordered the victim out of the Chevrolet at gunpoint and demanded the victim hand over his wedding ring, which he did. The offender then demanded the victim’s wallet and cell phone. The victim pushed the offender and ran from the scene. The victim called 9-1-1 to report the incident. As the victim was calling 9-1-1, he saw his Chevrolet being driven away southbound on Lexington Drive towards Oakton Street. The victim was not injured during this incident.

The offender was described as a male, unknown race and age, approximately 6’5”, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, and some type of black mask or cloth covering his face. The stolen Chevrolet is a 2011 black Tahoe with Illinois registration Q371211. The offender should be considered armed and dangerous and not be approached.

The Mount Prospect Police Department continues to investigate this Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking. Tips through CRIME STOPPERS are eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 for any information leading to an arrest and prosecution.
