Congratulations to the 2016 Economic Development Commission (EDC) Awards’ recipients! On October 20, the EDC offered 3 awards to local businesses and entrepreneurs for their committed support of Mount Prospect.

The Wildbird Shack owners, Alyse Burman Cohen and Paula Levy, received the Budding Business Award. The Wildbird Shack is located at 854 E Northwest Hwy. and opened in 2015. This unique retail shoppe strives to create an awareness of birding conservation, offers a line of high-quality, environmentally-friendly seeds and birding products, and aims to educate customers on the healing effects of birding. They go beyond the traditional retail philosophy by giving back to the community through local events, such as sponsoring the craft tent at the Downtown Merchants’ Fall Festival in October of 2016.

Dave Esau, Owner/Operator and Chef of Dave’s Specialty Foods, was awarded the Enduring Business Award. Located at 105 W Prospect Ave. in downtown Mount Prospect, it offers catering of all size events, cooking classes and carry-out or dine-in options, including a “party room.” Esau is devoted to customer service and serving top-quality, fresh food - from appetizers or desserts to complete meals. Offering delicious creations at fair prices have made Dave’s Specialty Foods a staple within downtown Mount Prospect for the past 14 years.

The EDC awarded Aeron Lancero of e+o Food and Drink in Randhurst Village the Entrepreneurial Business Person of the Year. Lancero is COO of Intrestco, whose corporate offices are housed at Randhurst Village, and is co-owner of e+ o Food and Drink. e+o Food and Drink received Chicago Magazine’s nod as "Best New Restaurant" upon opening and the year after awarded the "Most Memorable Dining Experience in 2014" by the Daily Herald. In 2015, e+o received recognition “150 Dishes You Must Try” by the Chicago Tribune. In addition, e+o received great write-ups by Crain's Chicago Business, Departures Magazine, Modern Luxury and Asian Publications. Considered a community stakeholder, Lancero helped pass a new law on BYOB programs in the Village. Lancero shares a commitment to charity and has hosted a number of fundraisers.
