Mount Prospect Entrepreneurs Initiative Receives National Recognition

Post Date:09/27/2016 5:45 PM
On Tuesday, September 27, 2016, the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) awarded a Bronze award for Entrepreneurship to the Mount Prospect Entrepreneurs Initiative (MPEI), a partnership of the Village of Mount Prospect, the Mount Prospect Chamber of Commerce, Mount Prospect Public Library and the Mount Prospect Downtown Merchants Association. In addition, the Village received a Silver award for Special Purpose Print Brochure.

The IEDC Excellence in Economic Development Awards program distinguishes the world's best economic development programs and partnerships, marketing materials and the year's most influential leaders. The Awards honor organizations and individuals for their efforts in creating positive change in urban, suburban and rural communities.

Assistant to the Village Manager Nellie Beckner and Dawn Fletcher Collins, Executive Director of the Mount Prospect Chamber of Commerce, attended the IEDC 2016 Annual Conference in Cleveland, Ohio to receive the award.

“Receiving two IEDC Excellence in Economic Development Awards demonstrates the Village's commitment to entrepreneurship. It is indicative of the innovative, quality resources we have made available to support small business in Mount Prospect,” said Beckner.

Each award category (Gold, Silver, & Bronze) is divided according to population. Mount Prospect is within the population category of 25,000 to 200,000 people.

The Silver award for Special Purpose Print Brochure (Program Award) was given in recognition of the Mount Prospect Business Resource Guide. The award is given for a brochure designed for a specific purpose; the Business Resource Guide helps inform entrepreneurs of the various local, state and federal requirements of opening a small business.

IEDC honored MPEI with a Bronze award for Entrepreneurship (Program Award). This award recognizes programs, policies, or initiatives that nurture and support individuals or emerging small businesses to develop their ideas, products, and/or services into viable, competitive businesses.

Mayor Arlene A. Juracek said, “Receiving this award is a testament to the Village’s commitment to entrepreneurial success. Local business endorsements were part of the application package, and we would not have received these awards without local business validation of the high quality of entrepreneurial nurturing in the Village.”

From free presentations to open discussions, MPEI continues to offer quality programs designed to guide new and prospective business owners down the path of success.

“On behalf of the IEDC board of directors and Excellence in Economic Development Awards Advisory Committee, congratulations to the Village of Mount Prospect. Not only did they work to provide a necessary service to their community; but also, their participation in the awards program sheds light on their stellar projects which other communities can now use a benchmark,” said Barry Matherly, CEcD, FM, IEDC 2016 Board Chair, President & CEO of the Greater Richmond Partnership.
