As part of Mount Prospect’s Centennial Celebration, VFW Posts 1337 and 525, along with the Mount Prospect Public Library, present historian Jim Gibbons to guide you through one of the most catastrophic wars in our nation’s history, World War I. Gibbons will highlight significant events that thrust the United States into this unwanted war in 1917, including the assassination of the Arch Duke Ferdinand, the sinking of the luxury liner Lusitania, and the eventual rise of Adolph Hitler to supreme power leading into World War II. See how new weapons for war – the airplane, the submarine, the aircraft carrier, and the tank – were invented to achieve absolute victory.
